Global wealth inequality has declined since the year 2000

This analysis shows that global wealth inequality was reduced over the past 20 years:

  • The top ten per cent’s share of global wealth was reduced from 88.5 per cent in 2000 to 81.7 per cent in 2019 according to Credit Suisse, cf. table.
  • That is matched by the fact that the share of the bottom 90 per cent has increased from 11.5 per cent in 2000 to 18.3 per cent in 2019.
  • Other indicators of global wealth inequality (Gini, top one per cent, and top five per cent) also show that inequality in global wealth has declined since the year 2000.
